McLean, VA - Xu Yayin, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at York Hospital. Yayin was born in Fujian, China on January 18, 1946, the daughter of Xu Zijia and Lin Dunxin.
She held a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University and worked as a computer software engineer for Thomson Reuters in Rockville, MD until her retirement in 2020. Outside of work, she was a member of Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Vienna, VA and a dedicated volunteer and supporter of the AiXin Foundation, which seeks to bring better education opportunities to children in economically disadvantaged, rural areas of China. She loved to sing and was a member of the Lingkong and Huaxia Choral groups in Northern Virginia.
Yayin was an adventurous world traveler, an avid nature and bird lover, and a devoted wife, mother, and sister. She leaves behind a husband, Chen Maoli; a daughter, Chen Shuo and her husband Matt Hunley of Red Lion; two grandchildren, Emma and Anne Hunley; two sisters, Xu Yalan of Beijing and Xu Yahong of Fuzhou, China; as well as two nieces, Xu Jin and Gong Tian.
