YORK – Winifred E. (Mears) Vaughn, 96, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at The Village at Sprenkle Drive Lutheran Home. She was the loving wife of the late Samuel G. Vaughn, Sr. The couple were married for 46 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, September 14 at 11 AM at Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Dr. Sterling Walsh, Jr. officiating. A viewing will be held 10-11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery following the service. Mrs. Vaughn was born in York on November 23, 1914. She was the only daughter of the late Charles F. and Flossie (Everhart) Mears. Mrs. Vaughn cherished her life as a homemaker. She was a former member of St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. Mrs. Vaughn was remembered by her family as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, especially her Angel books. She was an extremely loving and caring person who was always there for her family. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by four sons: Samuel G. Vaughn, Jr. and wife Ruth of York, Richard Vaughn and wife Pak of New Jersey, Charles Vaughn and wife Carol of Dover and William Vaughn and wife Renee of Harrisburg; two daughters, Carol Richardson and husband Gary of Spring Grove and Brenda Brown of York; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany and Robert Burns, Samuel Vaughn III and wife Christine, Jeffery Richardson and wife Marci, Amy Mason and husband James, James Brown, William Brown, Charles Vaughn, Jr. and wife Erika, Emily Brislin and husband Philip, Danny Gassert, Dena Gassert, and Danielle Horanic; 26 great-grandchildren, Aiden, Lauren, Lydia, Sydney, Samuel, Daniel, Olivia, Zackary, Jessica, Maria, James, Megan, Natalie, Whitney, Tyler, Austin, Brandon, Warrick, Mariah, Alexis, Ryan, Devon, Justin, Nicole, Aubrey, and Kendra; and two great-great-grandchildren, Shayden and Leah. She was preceded in death by a brother Charles Mears and a son-in-law James Thomas Brown, Sr. In memory of Mrs. Vaughn, a memorial contribution may be made to The Village at Sprenkle Drive, Attn: LSS Foundation, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., York, PA 17404.
