Wilson M. Tome, Sr.

YORK- Wilson M. Tome, Sr., 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of Betty M. (Robinson) Tome. The couple planned to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on August 20. A funeral service will be 1:30p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Freysville with his pastor, the Reverend Robert Kitchen officiating. Viewings will be 5-7 p.m. on Saturday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion and from 12:30-1:30p.m. on Sunday at the church. Burial will be held at Bethel United Methodist Cemetery. Mr. Tome was born on August 9, 1932 in York New Salem, a son of the late Luther W. and Elda M. (Klinedinst) Tome. Wilson was a 1949 graduate of William Penn High School. He worked at Voith Hydro, formerly Allis-Chalmers for 26 years until his retirement. He also owned and operated Tome’s Tax Service for 40 years. Mr. Tome was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Freysville. Wilson was a NSA-ASA softball umpire for 40 years. He also volunteered at the Salvation Army, was a Webelos Boy Scouts Leader and a member of the church council. Along with his wife, Betty, Mr. Tome is survived by two sons, Wilson M. Tome, Jr. and his wife, Kathie of York and Timothy Tome and his wife, Marcie of York; two daughters, Kathleen M. Conrad and her husband, Lynn of Red Lion and Melody M. Grove and her husband, William of Airville; four grandchildren, Kristen M. Whiteford and her husband, Robert, Lauren M. Conrad, Rachel M. Grove-Rohrbaugh and her husband, Max and Eleanor K. Silk; a great grandson, Henry L. Whiteford; and three brothers, Roy Tome of York, Vernon Tome of York, and Carl Tome and his wife, Betty of Red Lion. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Tome.
