William Truman Kostas

HELLAM TOWNSHIP- William Truman Kostas died on March 23, 2016 after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. His warmth, wit, and easy-going manner will be missed by those who knew him in every phase of his life. Will was multifaceted and multi-talented as reflected in his numerous occupations and pastimes. During the 80s and 90s he was employed as a funeral director with Heffner Funeral Homes and later worked in pre-need family service with Golden Considerations. For a number of years he wrote a golf column for the York Daily Record and covered local sports events. He coached the Dallastown boys’ tennis team to two YCIAA championships in the late 80s and was named Coach of the Year by the York Daily Record. He was an avid and skilled golfer, Master Gardener, specialty painter and woodworker, cook, photographer, and music aficionado. In his last months he helped his cousin, Scott Fogel, a disc jockey for WLVR, with the weekly set he called “Cuz’s Corner.” Will was born in Bethlehem, PA, on July 18, 1948. He was predeceased by his parents, Leona (Fogel) Kostas and N. William Kostas. He was a graduate of Lakemont Academy in New York State, earned a BS from Moravian College, and a Masters of Allied Health as well as his Funeral Director certification from NYU School of Mortuary Science. He is survived by Anne Wilson Kostas, his wife of 22 years and companion till the end; two sisters, Nancy Kostas and Joan Horwath (both of Bethlehem); nieces, Jennifer Horwath and Pamela Bruce; and numerous close friends he called brothers and sisters. A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 on Friday, April 1, followed by a memorial service, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York.
