William Thomas Dohner

William (Bill) T. Dohner, 94, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022. He was the loving husband and best friend of the late Virginia (Ginny) F. Dohner who passed away on March 31, 2020 – only 1 month away from celebrating 72 years of marriage. Bill is the son of the late William H. Dohner and Nora (Heilman) Dohner. He graduated in 1946 from Palmyra High School, located in Palmyra, PA, enlisted into the Navy on May 6, 1946, and became a medical corpsman. Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy in the spring of 1948 after which he and Ginny got married on May 1, 1948. Bill was later called back into the Navy for the Korean war. Following his second discharge from the Navy and with the benefit of the GI Bill, Bill attended Tri-State College (currently Trine University) in Indiana receiving a degree in civil engineering. Bill went on to have a successful career in engineering and construction eventually retiring at the age of 65 from GA & FC Wagman Construction Company. Archery was an interest he shared with Ginny, both being avid members of the Palmyra Archery club. In retirement years, Bill and Ginny spent time at their Ocean City, MD townhouse, which became a gathering place for their children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and cherished those special times and memories. Bill loved the Ocean City activities of tennis, boating, fishing, clamming, crabbing and gathering to relax with friends and neighbors. Though not starting until he was in his 60s, Bill became an avid runner/walker eventually logging over 20,000 miles. Retirement enabled Bill and Ginny to travel to Florida each winter to enjoy warmer weather and time with friends. He and Ginny also traveled up and down the East coast, as well as stopping to visit their son’s family who resided in Atlanta, Georgia, and later in Destin, Florida. They traveled together to Europe, Alaska and Canada with family. Bill is survived by a son, Eric Dohner and his wife, Cynthia; a daughter, Lynn Jerome and her husband Dean; three grandchildren, Brian Jerome and his wife, Megan, and 3 great granddaughters; Zachary Dohner and his wife, Amy; Jacob Dohner and his wife, Alexis; and a niece Andrea Hiebert.
