YORK - William R. Raid, 79, of West Manchester Township, died September 14, 2021 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (McMillan) Raid to whom he was married for 43 years. Born December 31, 1941 in Erie, PA, Bill was a son of the late Martin R. and Irene (Prebeck) Raid. He was a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, and pursued his career as a graphic designer at various firms before founding his own studio in 1983 in York. He operated The Art Department for 28 years until his retirement in 2011. Bill will be remembered for his great sense of humor, which he needed as a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan. He also enjoyed bowling, listening to jazz, watching old movies, visiting art museums and vacationing in his favorite place, Williamsburg, VA. He loved his many pets as well as animals of all kinds, and was a passionate supporter of animal rights. In addition to his wife Barbara he leaves behind son Jeffery Raid and his wife Lynn Miescier of Columbia, MD; daughter Jennifer Barto and her husband Donald, Jr. of Elkridge, MD; three grandchildren: Amanda Raid, Meredith Raid and Owen Barto; sister Diane Rog of N. Tonawanda, NY; and brother Richard Raid of Union City, PA. He was preceded in death by his brother Martin Raid. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd in York. Visitation 1:00-2:00 pm, service at 2:00 Certified Celebrant Debe Snyder will be officiating at the service. Memorial contributions may be made to York County SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406 or an animal welfare organization of choice.
