YORK--William “Bill” Poole, Jr., 74, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and cherished friend.
Bill was born on March 29, 1950, in Ambler, Pennsylvania, to William and Roberta Poole. He grew up in Ambler with his siblings, Ginny and Steve, and attended Wissahickon High School. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Dickinson College where he majored in American History. Soon after college graduation, Bill pursued his law degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
Bill practiced law in York, Pennsylvania, where he built an esteemed 40 plus year career. In 1987, he co-founded the firm Miller, Poole & Lord, LLP, currently MPL Law Firm, where he spent the majority of his career. His commitment to justice, his clients, and the legal profession earned him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.
Bill was an active member of St. John Episcopal Church. He volunteered as a board member of York Day Nursery and Memorial White Rose Hospice.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bill’s greatest joy was his family. With his first wife, Sue, he raised two sons, Zach and Chris. He took great pride in being a devoted and supportive father and led by example, teaching them the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance. He later remarried Michelle, who he loved dearly, and gained two bonus children, Laura, and Stephanie.
Bill’s favorite activity was spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren, Evan, Mya, John, and Owen. He also enjoyed anything relating to history, thoughtful discussions, eating sweets, doting upon his beloved pets, and watching the Philadelphia Eagles become two-time Super Bowl champions!
Bill is survived by his loving wife Michelle, his children Zach, Chris, Laura, and Stephanie, their significant others Whitney, Chrissy, Brad, and Buddy, his grandchildren, Evan, Mya, John, and Owen, his brother Steve, and many dear friends and extended family members. He is now reunited in peace with his parents, William and Roberta Poole, his sister, Ginny, and others who passed before him.
A service to honor Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, April 5th at 11am at St. John Episcopal Church, 140 N. Beaver St., York. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the remarkable man he was and the legacy he leaves behind. In lieu of flowers, and as a reflection of his lifelong commitment to helping others, Hospice Promise donations should be sent via check to Memorial White Rose Hospice, 224 St. Charles Way, York PA 17403. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York is in charge of arrangements.
Though Bill is no longer with us in body, his spirit, love, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest easy, Bill. We love you.
