YORK--William P. Shingler, Sr., 80, passed away August 25, 2023 at Genesis-York North Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Jennifer A. (Winnick) Shingler to whom he was married for 49 years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 12:00PM, Friday September 1, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles St., Red Lion. A visitation will be held 11:00AM – 12:00PM, Friday at the church. Following the service everyone is invited to stay at the church for a luncheon. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
Born January 4, 1943 in Rockhill Furnace, Huntingdon Co., he was the son of Paul H. and Helen M. (Crone) Shingler.
He was employed as a trucking dispatcher with Interstate Systems and later Smith’s Transport. He retired from Mastercraft after several years as their shipping and receiving supervisor.
A Tech Sergeant Veteran in the United States Air Force, he was also a member of Madden-Wennick American Legion in Rockhill and Grace Lutheran Church—Red Lion. An avid sports fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR’s Mark Martin, St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Shingler is survived by his son, William P. Shingler Jr., and his wife, Rhodia of Red Lion; his two daughters, Tracy L. Smith and her husband, DeLane of Windsor and Jana L. Shingler of Colorado; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley L. Wolfe of Elizabethtown and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Alexander Shingler.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 220 N. Charles Street, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
The family would like to acknowledge and specially thank Grane Hospice (Peter, Sophia, Hope and Katherine) and also Nurse Mary from Genesis—York North.
