William M. Grandia Ii

Willam M. Grandia II died unexpectedly on December 23, 2021 in Hanover, PA. Bill was born on April 5, 1955 in Amityville, NY. He was the son of the late William M. Grandia and Shirley F. Roser Grandia, also deceased. He was the brother of Kathy Mosso and Michael Grandia, who predeceased him. Bill was a 1973 graduate of Dallastown Area High School and graduated from Millersville University in 1991 with a BS in Technology Education. He taught his entire teaching career at Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, PA. Mr. G, as he was known to his students, wore many hats at Delone: Technology Education teacher, Driver’s Education teacher, Manager of the Busing Program and even the locksmith for the school. A natural teacher, he was a good listener and advisor for students who needed a friend or help solving a problem. He would lend a hand and give advice with good humor. He had just finished a driving lesson when he died. Many people knew Bill through his more than forty years of scouting. Bill was a scout as a boy, but it was his work with the scouts since he was a young adult where he distinguished himself. He was an assistant scoutmaster for the boy scout troop at Advent Lutheran Church. He later joined Troop 69 in Jacobus where he served as assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, troop committee member and chairperson. He founded an Explorer Post and later a Venture Crew. But it is Bill’s presence at Camp Tuckahoe where most people got to know him. Bill, or Mr. Bill or Mr. G, served in many areas at camp such as the rifle range, scoutcraft, handicraft, and the first-year camping program. He was even the camp cook. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge. He was awarded the highest adult honor: The Silver Beaver Award and The Lamb Award, the highest religious award from the Boy Scouts of America. Giving back to his community was important to Bill, He served on the Church Council and the Finance Committee at Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus. Bill loved living in Adams County and was a member of the Moose and McSherrystown Fish and Game Association. He also helped his neighbors however he could when they needed help. He had a generous and compassionate heart. Bill is survived by his sister Janiene Grandia Shahidi of York; his niece, who was so lucky to have such a ‘big brother’, Christine Mosso of Miami FL; nephews Joseph, Michael, and Alexander Insalaco, Michael and Peter Grandia, and the late Anthony Insalaco and Lysabeth Grandia; cousins, and many, many friends who will mourn his passing and miss his kindness and sense of humor. A Celebration of Life service will be on May 21 at 11am at Acorn Meadows in Thomasville, PA. Check the Bill Grandia Memorial Page on Facebook for more details.
