William L. Starner

YORK- William L. Starner, 70, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015, at his home. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Crerand) Starner. The couple celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary September 10, 2014. A casual family visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Saint James Lutheran Church, 25 North Adams Road in York. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born July 26, 1944 in York, William was a son of the late Charles J. and June (Cooper) Starner. He taught seventh grade science at Hannah Penn Middle School for 30 years. After his retirement from teaching, William worked at Wolfgang Candy for ten years. Mr. Starner was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Viking Athletic Association and the Hawk Gunning Club. He was an avid fisherman and boater and enjoyed being on the water. William was happiest on the Indian River in Delaware spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Deborah, Mr. Starner is survived by a son, Jeff Starner and his wife Missy of York; a daughter, Jennifer Shorts and her husband Gene of York, and four grandchildren, Bryce and Chad Starner and Landon and Alexa Shorts. Along with his parents, William was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Starner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3417 Concord Road, Suite C, York, PA 1402 or the Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Road, York, PA 17403.
