William L. Meals, Jr.

YORK - William L. Meals, Jr., 89, passed away Monday, February 5, 2018 at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of the late Virginia E. (Fox) Meals. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 8, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church, 25 N. Adams Street, York with his pastor, The Rev. Darcy M. Reis officiating. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard.A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Thursday at the Church. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born January 23, 1929 in Gettysburg, a son of the late William L. and Virginia A. (Steinberger) Meals, he was a 1948 graduate of Gettysburg High School and attended Gettysburg College. Mr. Meals served overseas in the US Army 14th Calvary Regiment during the Korean War. He was a sales representative for Hanover Plumbing, Bodwell Plumbing and in 1994 retired from H & S Supply. William was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, West York VFW 8951, Gettysburg American Legion 202, Korean War Veteran Assoc. 178 York, 14th Calvary Assoc., Jefferson Sportsman's Assoc., was a life member of the United States Army Conservatory and a Past President of Surviving Spouse Socials of York County. Mr. Meals is survived by a son, William L. Meals, III and wife Kathy Meals of York; a daughter, Margaret A. and husband Brian Funkhouser of Dover; four grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Meals, Emily Kramer and Ann Hied; and three great grandchildren.
