William L. Jones

RED LION - William L. Jones, 78, died at 2:25 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at ManorCare Health Services - Dallastown. He was the husband of Ruth E. (Kurtz) Jones with whom he observed a 56th wedding anniversary on March 29, 2009. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1155 Felton Rd., Red Lion with his pastor, the Rev. James C. House, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Chapel & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Jones was born November 9, 1930, in Red Lion. He was the son of the late George Jacob and Ozella Lenora (Grove) Jones. He was a 1948 graduate of Red Lion High School and a 1953 graduate of Lebanon Valley College. Following college, Mr. Jones served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. Upon completing his military duty, he took a position as an accountant with the former Motter Printing Press, Co., retiring in 1990 as Controller after 34 years of service. He had been an active member of Zion United Methodist Church where he was a past church treasurer, had served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, and was a former Sunday School Teacher. He was also a past member of the Board of Directors for the Quincy United Methodist Home. Mr. Jones was a former member of the Red Lion School Board; was a member of the former Red Lion Country Club; and had volunteered delivering meals for Mobile Foods in Red Lion. Bill and Ruth were the proud parents of three children and five grandchildren; Candy J. Heckel, her husband, Jeff and their children, Amanda, Ashley, Alicia and Brent, of Latrobe; Rick W. Jones, his wife, Francine and their son, Nicholas of Dallastown; and Freddy Jones who passed away in 1967. Bill also leaves two aunts, Pauline Grove of Red Lion and Esther Orrs of Sinking Springs; and a number of cousins.
