William J. Zimmerman POTTSVILLE-William J. Zimmerman 63, of Pottsville died at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. yesterday. Born July 19, 1945 in Scwickley, Allegheny County he was the son of the late Marion and Dorothy Carter Zimmerman. Bill graduated from Coraopolis High School in 1963, received his B.S from The Pennsylvania State University in 1967 and he did graduate work at Penn State, John Hopkins University and Harvard University. Mr. Zimmerman was an assistant to the Dean, College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State from 1968-1969. He then became the area representative, for continuing education at Penn State York 1969-1973. He was the Director of Continuing Education, Penn State Schuylkill 1973-1993. He retired the Director of Student Affairs and Marketing in 2003. Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, served of the board of trustees and Synod, Pulaski Lodge #216 F&AM, Mountain City Royal Chapter #196, Regal Council #65 Royal and Select Masters, Constantine Commandery #41, Knights Templar, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Bloomsburg, Rajah Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Schyulkill County Shrine Club, Pottsville Masonic Builders Club. Mr. Zimmerman was a Life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, Schuylkill County Chapter, Penn State Alumni Assoc. Yorkville Hose Fire Company No 1, Pottsville AMVETS, Pottsville Catholic War Veterans, and the Pottsville Club. Mr. Zimmerman severed as a member and President of the Pottsville Area School District Board of Education, member and treasure greater Pottsville Area Sewer Authority, member, past-president and past distinguished Lt. Governor for the Pottsville Kiwanis and District 14 and their Legion of Honor recipient, member, Pottsville Hospital and warne Clinic School of Nursing Advisory Board, Trustee, Hamburg Center, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, appointed by Governor Edward Rendell. Surviving is his wife of 30 years Cathy S Stohn, a daughter Kate S. Zimmerman, a student at Penn State, University Park, a brother Thomas C. Zimmerman, Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, and a sister-in-law Carol M. Zimmerman, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, a niece a nephew, and a great nephew. Celebration of Life services will be conducted on Sunday, at 4:00 P.M. at the United Presbyterian Church, 214 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, PA. There will be no procession from the Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. to the school. There will be no calling hours Saturday evening. Family and friend may call at the church from 12:30 P.M. till 3:30. The Revs Manuela Kauer and Harold Hand officiating.
