William J. Yuknavich

AIRVILLE – William J. Yuknavich, 89, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at Manor Care – South. He was the husband of the late Clara (Elliott) Yuknavich. Funeral services and private burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery in Winter Park, FL. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born November 6, 1922 in Bakerton, Cambria Co. a son of the late Charles and Mary Yuknavich, he retired from Lockheed Martin after a combined 40 years with its predecessor companies, Glen L. Martin Co. and Martin Marietta. He was heavily involved in the development of laser guided missiles and creating the Vanguard Program. Mr. Yuknavich was a life member of the Bakerton VFW; a member of National Assoc. of Aerospace Estimators; and was a recreational tennis player and golfer. He was an avid basketball fan who attended many college Women’s Final Four tournaments. Mr. Yuknavich was a US Army veteran having served in WWII and the Korean War. Mr. Yuknavich is survived by two sons, Richard E. Yuknavich of Airville and Timothy K. Yuknavich of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Jared Yuknavich; a brother, George Yuknavich of Patton, PA; a sister, Mary Ciccatelli of Bakerton; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Anthony Yuknavich; and a sister, Nel Glinski. Memorial contributions may be made to SPCA of York Co., 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.
