William J. Wilvert

William J. Wilvert

DOVER- William J. Wilvert, 92, died on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marjorie A. (Farnham) Wilvert who died on August 8, 2001. The couple had been married for nearly 50 years.


A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with Pastor Logan Ames officiating and full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at the start of the service. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed around 11 a.m. on HeffnerCare.com by searching William’s obituary. Please dress casual and wear Penn State attire if you have it.


Born on November 5, 1930, he was a son of the late Jacob R. and Freda G. (Rife) Wilvert. William received his Bachelor’s Degree from Millersville University and Master’s Degree from Penn State University. He was a teacher at the York City School District for 35 years. After retiring, he was a bus driver for Kelly Transit.


Mr. Wilvert served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. His memberships included the Shiloh American Legion Post 791, Hawk Gunning Club, BD Club, 13th Ward Political Club, West York VFW Post 8951, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Zeredatha White Rose Lodge No. 451, Kiltie Band of York, York Buckhorn and was the founding father of Sla-Wil-Co. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, spending time at his “mansion” on Beyshore Island and was an avid Penn State Football fan.


William is survived by three daughters, Cindy Wilvert of York, Sheila Cook and her husband, Jim of York and Ritie Blauser and her husband, Tim of Dover; seven grandchildren, Jason Cook and his wife, Tara, Dustin Cook and his wife, Aubrey, Shane Cook and his wife, Amy, Allyson Moyer and her husband, Matt, Jarrod Slagle and his companion, Kylie, Karsyn Blauser and Shealynne Shelly and her companion, Shaun; 13 great grandchildren, Haley, Morgan, Jordan, Priscilla, Emerson, Jacey, Nug, Zeke, Mckinley, Levi, Cole, Layla and Alorah; and son in law, Gerald Slagle of Dover. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Wilvert and Robert Wilvert.
