YORK- William J. Gauntlett, 93, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Jeannette J. (Zielasko) Gauntlett, to whom he was married for 68 years. The couple wed on September 13, 1947. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 340 East Market St., York with his pastor, the Reverend Don Slaybaugh officiating. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born March 21, 1923 in Minersville, he was a son of the late Earl and Cora (Shofstal) Gauntlett. William graduated from Williamson Trade School in 1943 as a machinist and from Drexel University in 1949 with a BSME. He was employed by Campbell Chain Co. for 30 years and retired in 1987 as Manager of Operations. Mr. Gauntlett served our country for two years in the U.S. Army during WWII. William was a member of the University Club of York. Along with his wife, Jeannette, William is survived by two sons, William Gauntlett, Jr. and David Gauntlett, both of York; and one daughter, Carolyn Havekotte and her husband, Tom of York.
