William J. Gallagher, Sr.

WATSONTOWN - William J. Gallagher, Sr., 79, found peace after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born on January 19, 1934 in Dunmore, and was the son of the late Michael and Agnes (Cunningham) Gallagher. William served as a tank driver in the United States Army. He married the former Helen F. (Toomey) who survives, on July 13, 1974 and they celebrated 39 years of marriage together. William was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Milton and a past member of the Teamsters Union #764. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories, spending time with his dog, restoring jukeboxes, helping neighbors and friends, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was employed by Preston Trucking, Watsontown for many years as a truck driver. In addition to his wife Helen, William is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; William Jr. and Christa Gallagher of Howard, one daughter; Christine G. Schaller of Coopersburg, four grandchildren; Liliana Schaller, Ryan Schaller, Liam Gallagher and Stella Gallagher, one brother; Joseph Gallagher of Maryland, one sister; Ann Finson of Massachusetts, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog; Bridget. William was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Thomas and Franck Gallagher. A public viewing will be held 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2013 and again from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton, PA 17847. A mass of Christian burial will take place 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Broadway Street, Milton PA 17847 with the Reverend John D. Hoke officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Milton.
