YORK- William Howard Jacobs, 80, died on Monday, January 30, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Anita M. (Sholtis) Jacobs, to whom he was married for 48 years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Rd., York with Pastor Bob Krouse officiating. A visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be private at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Born on September 9, 1936 in York, he was the son of the late George L. and Nora E. (Markle) Jacobs. William was a 1954 graduate of West York High School, a 1958 graduate of Juniata College and received his Master’s Degree in 1966 from Northern Iowa University. He was a science teacher at West York High School from 1958-1993 where he taught Chemistry, Physics, Nuclear Science and was the Science Department Chairman. During his time at West York he also supported the sports teams being a coach, scorekeeper and timekeeper. Mr. Jacobs was a member of First Church of the Brethren in York where he was a Deacon and a member of Lamplighters Sunday School Class. William was a life member of PSEA, NEA and NSTA and was a member of West York Optimist Club. Mr. Jacobs enjoyed traveling, sports, including bowling, was an avid card player and loved crabs. Along with his wife, Anita, William is survived by one son, David A. Jacobs and wife, Karen of Bel Air, MD; one daughter, Cheryl L. Orndorff and husband, Mark of Gettysburg; and four grandchildren, Morgan and Aaron Orndorff and Benjamin and Charlotte Jacobs. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Rd., York, PA 17402 in William’s memory.
