HANOVER TOWNSHIP-William H. "Uncle Buck" Weida, 80, of the Lee Park section of Hanover Township, passed away Tuesday morning at the Hampton House. Born in Hanover Township on November 5, 1928, he was a son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Matilda (Culp) Weida. He attended Hanover High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Weida was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church. He was a former coach for both the Hanover Mini Hawks and St. Theresa's Teener League Baseball. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed painting in his spare time. He was also a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State. He loved Hanover Hawkeyes Football. Prior to retiring in 1993, he was employed by Techniglass, formerly Owens Illinois. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Weida, and sister, Florence Weida. Surviving is his wife of 55 years, the former Caroline E. Geisinger; daughter Sandra Rush; grandchildren Richmond Rush and Rachael Rush; great-grandchildren, Bret, Corey, Richmond and Logan Rush; sisters Betty Jane Forney and her husband, James, Winsor, CT; Grace Ann Mercado and her husband, Juan, Lee Park; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Doug Posegate will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
