YORK - William H. Elicker, 88, passed away, Sunday, March 1, 2009 at York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of Helen M. (Charleston) Elicker to whom he was married for 62 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3293 Broad Street, Emigsville, with his pastor, The Rev. Stephen W. Yambor officiating. A viewing will be held from 12:30-1:30 PM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born May 22, 1920 in York, a son of the late William W. and Mabel E. (Hummer) Elicker, he was a 1938 graduate of West York High School and furthered his education at York Collegiate Institute and Thompson's Business College. Mr. Elicker retired in 1982 from American Chain and Cable Co. after 43 years of service. He was a 50-year member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he served as council president and treasurer for three years and was an adult Sunday school teacher for 50 years; was active with ACCO Social Club Retirees; and was a member of the former Manchester Twp. Lions Club for 45 years, having served as president for two years and treasurer for many years; and was a former member of AARP Golf group at Briarwood Golf course. He was a self-taught art hobbyist and enjoyed traveling and going on cruises with his wife. Their travels took them throughout the US, Hawaii, Alaska, and all over the world. Mr. Elicker was a US Army veteran of WWII where he earned two bronze stars as a Sgt. Major in the Battle of the Bulge. In addition to his wife, Helen; Mr. Elicker is survived by eight nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen L. Heffner and Mary E. Wentz; and two brothers, Horace H. Elicker and Richard W. Elicker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, PO Box 91, Emigsville, PA 17318 or to Lutheran Social Services, 1050 Pennsylvanian Ave., York, PA 17404.
