CLARKS SUMMIT-William H. Dunstone, 76, a resident of Clarks Summit, died Saturday morning at Morristown Hospital, Morristown, New Jersey. His wife, the former Shirley McCarthy, preceded him in death on July 14, 2005. Born on October 30, 1930, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Miriam (McVeigh) Dunstone. He was valedictorian of both his Scranton Technical High School and University of Scranton graduating classes. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude from the University of Scranton in 1952. After a brief stint in the U.S.Navy, he returned to the University of Scranton and earned his Masters Degree. Bill was a member of the University of Scranton's Chapter of Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society. A financial accountant by profession, he was employed by the International Correspondence School (ICS) and its parent corporation, Intext, Inc. During his employment with those companies, he rose to the level of corporate controller and secretary, spending much of his time in the corporate offices in New York City. In 1978, he and a group of other local men became owners and officers of Haddon Craftsman, Inc., Scranton. Corporate Secretary and Vice-President of Finance, he retired from Haddon Craftsman in 1989 at the young age of 59 years to devote more time to his family, leisure activities and volunteer work with charitable organizations. Among his other business ventures, Bill was an owner of Southeastern Color Graphics, Inc.; Twelfth Street Associates, Inc.; and the Globe Store. He was a member of the Book Manufacturers Institute. During his lifetime, Bill traveled extensively with his wife Shirley, especially enjoying their trips to Hawaii; Boca Raton, FL; Alaska; England; Ireland; and many other destinations. He was fond of vacationing on the major cruise lines, most recently with his children and grandsons to Bermuda and Bahamas in July 2006. Bill volunteered and assisted many charitable and civic organizations, including the Avoca Lions Club, St. Mary's Parish Holy Name Society, The School and Parish Finance Committees of St. Mary's Parish. A member of the President's Circle at the University of Scranton, he also is a past member of the University's Alumni Board of Governors. He also was an active member of The Mended Hearts Chapter 276, Scranton, where he served as an officer and hospital visitor at Mercy Hospital Scranton. A member of The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Summit, he is survived by his three children, daughter Anne Louise Drucker and her husband Steven Drucker, Randolph, NJ; son Attorney William F. Dunstone and his wife Deborah Dunstone, Peckville; and daughter Mary M. (Molly) Joyce and her husband Paul Joyce, Warminster, PA; as well as his seven grandsons, Brian Dunstone, Derek Dunstone, Michael Drucker, Kevin Drucker, William Drucker, Ryan Joyce and Kyle Joyce. Also surviving are his brothers Dr. John J. Dunstone and his wife Patricia Dunstone, Moscow; Edmund Dunstone and his wife Pamela Dunstone, Sarasota, FL; and Joseph Dunstone and his wife Kathryn Dunstone, Newton Lake; nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the Kniffen-O'Malley Funeral Home, 728 Main Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Mary's Church, 715 Hawthorne Street, Avoca. The Rev. Joseph G. Elston will concelebrate mass with Msgr. John H.Lewis, The Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Summit. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call Tuesday, 2 to 5, and 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or to the American Heart Association or Mended Hearts Chapter 276, c/o Mercy Hospital, 746 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, PA 18510.
