William G. Schwab, Jr.

DOVER - William G. Schwab, Jr., 94, entered the arms of his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 4:45 PM at his residence. He was the loving husband of the late Marion E. (Crooks) Schwab who passed away December 22, 2006. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 North Beaver Street, York, with his pastor, The Rev. W. Michael Langford and long time friend and former Pastor at Messiah U.M, Bishop Joseph Yeakel officiating. Viewings will be held at Messiah U.M.C from 7-9:00 PM Friday and 1-2:00 PM Saturday. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born February 2, 1916 in Philadelphia a son of the late William G. and Anna F. (Myers) Schwab, he was the owner of William G. Schwab, Inc., Opticians for 40 years. He was awarded Optician of the Year in 1977. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and was a veteran of WWII. Mr. Schwab was a member of Messiah U.M.C. for over 60 years; had been a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge 266 for over 50 years. His Masonic affiliations included Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine Temple and Golf Club, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and York County Shrine and Golf Club. He was a past president and member for over 50 years with North York Lions Club, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Mr. Schwab had also been a member of Shiloh American Legion and Viking Athletic Assoc. Mr. Schwab leaves two daughters, Dorothy A. and husband Curtis Ness of Stewartstown, and Carol and husband Samuel Corwell of York; a son, Dr. William E. Schwab of Glen Rock; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Moser and a brother, Carl Schwab. He was a very loving and caring father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He cherished his family and will be deeply missed by each one.
