YORK- William F. "Bill" Shearer, 78, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday night, July 10, 2008 with his loving wife, Joy E. (Shearer) Shearer by his side. A Celebration of Life Tribute service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion. A visitation will also be Tuesday at the funeral home from 10-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens where full military detail will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Bill was born in York on September 9, 1929, one of 14 children to Fred S. and Ruth I. (Hildebrand) Shearer. He joined the US Army on March 1, 1951 and served during the Korean Conflict. Bill married Joy Shearer on July 27, 1951. He was employed with Dentsply International for 15 years before retiring in 1983. Bill was a member of the Red Lion VFW Post #1446 and the Red Lion Senior Center. Joy and Bill enjoyed spending their winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. Surviving Bill are his three sons, Randy L. Shearer of Myrtle Beach, SC, Gary E. Shearer and his wife Sharon of York, and Michael A. Shearer and his wife Gilda of York; six grandchildren, Rachel Gainer and her husband Seth, Richelle, Reggie, Ashley, Rissa and Miranda Shearer; three brothers, Russell, Jackie, and Jerry Shearer all of York; four sisters, Dorcas Smith of York, Helen Snyder of York, Norma Ayres of York and Joann Smith of York. Three brothers and three sisters precede him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin Street, Jacobus, PA 17407.
