William Edward Bill" Petter

WILLIAMSPORT - William Edward "Bill" Petter, 70, died on Wednesday, September 01, 2010 at the Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport, PA. Bill was born in Williamsport on February 10, 1940 and was the son of the late Arthur and Grace (Heyman) Petter. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Class of 1958 and had also attended the University of Oklahoma, Penn State University and Lycoming College. He had retired in July 1997 as Secretary/Treasurer of Reliable Furniture. Bill was married to the late Carol Bruno Petter. He was a member of the Congregation Ohev Sholom and was a member and past Master of the Montoursville Eureka Lodge No. 335 F. & A.M. as well as serving for 7 years as treasurer of the lodge. He held a dual membership with the Watsontown Lodge No. 401 F. & A.M. and belonged to the A.A.S.R. Valley of Williamsport. Bill was a longtime sponsor of the Williamsport High School Women's Basketball Boosters, scorekeeper and announcer for Lycoming College basketball and wrestling. In his spare time, he was an avid collector of coins, military history, civil war history and collector of miniatures, including WWII ships of all nations. Bill is survived by two step daughters; Gina Gilbert of Rose Valley and Cathy Hansen of Jacksonville, FL, one step granddaughter; Nicole Wolfgang of Mechanicsburg, one brother and sister-in-law; Philip A. "Phil" and Thelma Petter of Williamsport and four nieces. There will be a Masonic service held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport, with the traditional Jewish Funeral Service immediately following with his spiritual leader officiating; Rabbi Shaul Rappeport. Burial will follow in Ohev Sholom Cemetery. In keeping with Jewish tradition, there will be no public viewing or flowers.
