William E. Gillmen

RED LION - William E. Gillmen, 79, of Windsor Township, died Sunday, September 14, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Lorraine Grace (Lewis) Gillmen. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion. His pastor, The Reverend, Timothy Funk will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Gillmen was born in Tyrone, PA on October 7, 1934, the son of the late John M. and Edith K. (Miller) Gillmen. He was an HVAC technician, retiring from Raytech Mechanical Services, Inc. in York. Mr. Gillmen was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Red Lion. He was a life member of Tyrone VFW as well as a member of Tyrone VFW, and a member of the Hook and Ladder Company “Hookies” of Tyrone. He was a member of USS Charles R. Ware Tin Can Sailors Association. He served in the US Navy in the European Theatre and in the Korean War. He referred to his eight years of service as being in Uncle Sam’s Canoe Club. Mr. Gillmen leaves three sons, William E. Gillmen, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Tyrone, PA, Martin J. Gillmen and his wife Cindy of Tyrone, PA, David P. Gillmen and his wife Carol of York; two daughters, Christil A. Hayward of Everett, WA and M. Katherine “Kate” Gillmen of Red Lion, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Gillmen of Texas and Faye Gates of Tyrone, PA.
