William E. Dittenhaffer

YORK- William E. “Bill” Dittenhaffer, 89, of Manchester Township, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Lois M. (Wolfgang) Dittenhaffer. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 19, 2016. A Memorial service will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N. Beaver Street, in York, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. His pastor, The Reverend Robert A. Vizthum will be officiating at the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Dittenhaffer was born in York on March 26, 1927, the son of Edward D. and Cora E. (Eppley) Dittenhaffer. He retired in 1991 as an Auditor for the State of Pennsylvania. Mr. Dittenhaffer was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church in York. He was a member of ARC of York County, York Art Association, Shiloh American Legion, Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and was president of the University Club of York. He was a 1944 Graduate of William Penn Senior High in York and in 1950 received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Business Education from Penn State University. He enjoyed Penn State Football, golfing, bowling, playing bridge, and always enjoyed the annual family trip to Ocean City, New Jersey. He served in the US Navy during WWII and received an American Theatre Ribbon Victory Medal. Mr. Dittenhaffer leaves a son, Scott E. Dittenhaffer and his wife Maurina of York; three daughters, Joan E. Farence and her husband Dale of York, Susan M. Miley and her husband Dennis of York, and Nancy E. Doll and her husband Jeffrey of Winchester, VA; 9 grandchildren, Amy, Timothy, Jessica, Jackie, Angie, Molly, Allison, Courtney, and Brittany; and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Josh Doll; and three sisters, Hazel M. Stayman, Esther N. Forbes, and Mary E. Melhorn. Memorial Contributions may be made to ARC of York County, 497 Hill Street, York, PA 17403.
