William C. Bentz

YORK- William C. Bentz, 83, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at Country Meadows of York. He was the husband of Regina M. (Ryer) Bentz who died July 19, 1976. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with his pastor, the Rev. Kevin T. Shively and the Rev. Dennis Fulk, chaplain of Country Meadows, officiating. Viewing will be 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial at Greenmount Cemetery will be at a later date. Mr. Bentz was born March 7, 1924, in Dillsburg. He was the son of the late Lloyd L. and Jessie (Ziegler) Bentz. Beginning with his childhood paper route, Mr. Bentz was a life-long entrepreneur. Along with his late wife, Jean, he owned and operated Bentz Foods in York for 20 years supplying many Central Pennsylvania schools and neighborhood markets with various items including "Mrs. Bentz's Pot Pies". After selling Bentz Foods, Mr. Bentz founded WCB Sales Company, and was active in its operation until his retirement. He was a life-long member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and assisted with office duties during Sunday services. He had also been a member of the Folkemer Bible Study Group and the Lutheran Men's Club. He was a 19M42 graduate of York High and was a member of the Viking Athletic Association. Mr. Bentz leaves his son, Robert W. Bentz and wife, Paula of York; grandchildren, Dr. Aaron and Alisia Bergsman; great granddaughter, Maya Jean Bergsman; and daughter-in-law, Carol Bentz of York, wife of Mr. Bentz's late son, Richard W. Bentz, who died December 12, 1990. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Lloyd.
