Wellsburg, NY - William C. Ashby, Age 90, formerly of Milan, PA passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Bradford County Manor, W. Burlington. Bill was born December 2, 1919 in Hanson, Kentucky son of the late Basil and Sophie (Jackson) Ashby. He served his country during WW II in the North Atlantic with the US Coast Guard. He was married to the late Helen N. (Wilk) Ashby on February 19, 1943. Bill was retired from dairy farming even in retirement he maintained his love for farming. He was a devoted member of the Grace Baptist Church in East Smithfield, PA and his interests included reading and sharing his personal history of WW II serving with the Coast Guard in the North Atlantic with his family and friends. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Billie & Donald Postlethwait of Ulster, his three sons and daughters-in-law, Dan & Cynthia Ashby of Milan, Jamie & Sara Ashby of East Smithfield, Thomas Ashby of Milan, ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, several nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Helen, N Ashby on July 10, 2009, grandson, William Daniel Ashby and sisters, Delcie Lee Ridner, Ruth Helen Seese. Family and friends are invited to call from 4 to 5 PM Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the East Smithfield Grace Baptist Church, RR2 Box 223B, Ulster, PA (across from SRU School). Bill's funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5 PM with Pastor Kurt Brown and Pastor Nate Blow officiating. Interment will be held 10 AM Friday, May 21, 2010 in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY 14894. Memorials are directed to Grace Baptist Church RR2 Box 223B, Ulster, PA 18850
