William A. 'Bill' Showers

WEST MILTON - William A. “Bill” Showers, 85, died Friday, October 24, 2014 at Milton Nursing and Rehab Center, Milton. Bill was born on May 28, 1929 in White Deer and was the son of the late Abram J. and Ester (Brungard) Showers. Bill’s mother died when he was six and he was raised by Ruth P. Showers. Bill served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Lewisburg High School Class of 1947. He went on and earned his Associates Degree from William and Mary Class of 1957. For many years Bill worked in farming, he also was a school bus driver and a self employed car salesman. Bill was a member of Winfield Baptist Church, Winfield, the Patriotic Order of Sons of America, West Milton Chapter and a former Union County Commissioner. He was an avid collector of old cars and coins, going to his cabin, attending church and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Bill is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law; William M. Showers of Weikert and James W. and Emily A. Showers of New Columbia, one daughter; Sharon E. Frederick of Winfield, six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three brothers; Lee, Roy “Pete” and Merrill Showers, one sister; Jean Berkheimer, one grandson; Michael Showers and one nephew; Billy Showers. A public viewing will be held 10:00 – 11:00a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton PA 17847 followed by the funeral at 11:00a.m. with the Reverend Corey Mitchell officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
