YORK- Willard Franklin Hoffman, 87, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Friday, November 8, 2013 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Louise E. (Poff) Hoffman, to whom he was married to for over 63 years. The couple wed on May 13, 1950. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown with his pastor, the Reverend Roger Mentzer officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York and from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at Church. Burial will be in Heiland View Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on June 6, 1926 in Dallastown, he was a son of the late Paul and Sadie (Geesey) Hoffman. Willard was a self employed Brick Mason and ran his own business until he retired in his early 50’s. Mr. Hoffman was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown. He served our country in the United States Navy for almost two years during WWII. Mr. Hoffman was a member of White Rose Lodge #706, Tall Cedars, Viking Athletic Association, Dallastown American Legion Post #605 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a former member of Seven Valleys Lions Club. Willard enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture and bird houses. He also enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader, particularly history. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Along with his wife, Louise, Willard is survived by one son, David Hoffman and his wife, Robin of York; one daughter, Christine Kaltreider and her husband, Thomas of Chambersburg; five grandchildren, Emily Keys and her husband, Jonathan of Middletown, DE, Jonathan Hoffman and his wife, Jessica of York, Kathryn Markle and her husband, Andrew of York, Adam Kaltreider and his wife, Jennifer of Bethlehem and Amy Hershey and her husband, William of Chambersburg; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Charles Hoffman; and one sister, Erma Heffner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313 or the Rotary Club of York, Charitable Endowment Fund for helping a hero, 48 E Market St, York, PA 17401. This fund provides housing for a disabled veteran.
