WILKES-BARRE - Wilfert Vieney, Sr., known to some as Jason "Sonny" Chandler, 88, of Wilkes-Barre died Saturday, at Hampton House, Hanover Twp. Born near Pottstown on September 13, 1920, he was the son of the late A.B. Chatman and Frances (Condict) Chatman. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Prior to retiring, he worked at Lowes Home Improvement and previously was employed in Delaware County. Mr. Veiney was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was affiliated with Bethel AME Church where his son Reverend Anthony Vieney is a pastor. He was also involved with the Foster Grandparents Program at Heights Elementary. His wife, the former Mary Jane Clinton, preceded him in death. To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his sons, Victor Holloway and his wife Barbara, Wilfert Vieney Jr., Terry Vieney, Anthony Vieney and his wife Faith; daughters, Jennifer Stewart, Gwendolyn Vieney, Rosalie Smith and her husband Lionel, Sonya Hicks and her husband Roger; 29 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 on Wednesday at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Reverend Anthony Vieney officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Friends may call from 9 to 10 AM.
