Wilbur S. Slingerland

TROY-Wilbur S. Slingerland, 91, of Troy, PA passed away on Monday, November 23, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Betty (Foust) Slingerland. The couple married on March 31, 1942 and had 67 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 3:00-3:50 PM on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Trojan Lodge #306 F&AM will hold a Masonic service at 3:50 PM. The funeral service to honor Wilbur's life will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, November 27th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Windfall Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Wilbur was born on September 6, 1918 in Troy, PA, son of the late Ray and Bess (MacBlane) Slingerland. He was a graduate of Troy High School and was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. Wilbur was employed and retired form the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Penn DOT) where he was an equipment operator. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, was an over 50-year member of Trojan Lodge #306 F&AM, and was a member of Troy Vets Club including the American Legion Post #49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8675. Wilbur is survived by his wife Betty, his sons: Micki J. (Michelle) Slingerland of Nashville, TN, and Eric W. Slingerland of Palm Springs, CA, his grandchildren: Blair Slingerland and Damian Slingerland, and many nieces and nephews. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Robert Slingerland, Florence Slingerland Wallace, Isaac "Ike" Slingerland, and Marjorie Slingerland King.
