Wendy Malaya (Johnson) Markel

SPRING GARDEN TOWNSHIP- Wendy Malaya (Johnson) Markel of York, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Paul Andrew Markel, Sr. The couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on June 25th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street in York with a viewing from 12:30-2 p.m. at the church. The Reverend Diane G. Wenthe will be officiating at the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Wendy was born in St. Louis Park, MN on October 25, 1964, a daughter of Dennis L. and Karen L. (Erickson) Johnson of Minnetonka, MN. She worked for the York Country Club. Wendy attended Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in York, was a 1983 graduate of Minnehaha Academy and attended University of Minnesota. Wendy dedicated her life to raising two wonderful children and being a caring wife. She took pleasure in being surrounded by her family, skiing, and enjoying time at the beach. Wendy leaves a son, Paul A. Markel, Jr. and a daughter, Jessica L. Markel, both at home; two brothers, Wayde D. Johnson and his wife, Sarah of Durham, NC and Ward C. Johnson and his wife Karen of Rogers, MN; and nieces and nephews, Ayden, Shelby, Brady, and Griffin Johnson. She was preceded in death by a niece, Anna Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
