Wendy Elaine (Smith) Boyer

YORK – Wendy Elaine (Smith) Boyer, 64, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at Dallastown Nursing Center. She was the wife of Ronald R. Boyer to whom she was married for 37 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2014 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with her pastor, The Rev. Paul W. Baughman officiating. A viewing will be held from 1-2:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bethlehem Stonepile U.M. Cemetery. Born June 24, 1949 in York, a daughter of the late Donald P. and Doris E. (Flinchbaugh) Smith, she was a 1967 graduate of Red Lion Area High School. Mrs. Boyer received her Elementary Education degree from Shippensburg University and also earned her Master’s Degree plus 60 credits. Mrs. Boyer was a First Grade teacher at Winterstown Elementary School for over 20 years and taught in the Red Lion School District for 35 years until her retirement in 2008. Wendy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. She touched the lives of hundreds of first grade students during her 35 years of teaching. She was a very creative and talented home decorator and artist, with many personal art works on display in her home. She loved outdoor activities including gardening, trips to the beach, traveling, and sailing with family and friends on the Chesapeake Bay. Mrs. Boyer was active in the American Assoc. of University Women (AAUW) and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband Ronald, Mrs. Boyer is survived by a daughter, Laura S. and husband Jonathan Whalen of Wilmington, DE; a son, Mitchell H. and wife Anjuli Boyer of Cincinnati, OH; a granddaughter, Josie Whalen; one brother, Kent Smith of North Pointe, FL; four sisters, Janeen Heffner of Woodlands, TX, Linda Ciprich of Lebanon, TN, Kristy Kitching of Dallastown, and Lori White of Burien, WA; ten nieces and nephews; and six great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate U.M. Church, 397 Tyler Run Rd., York, PA 17403.
