JACOBUS - Wayne L. Harris, 96, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Jean Louise (Wagner) Harris, who died June 10, 1983, and the late Betty (Smyser) Spence Harris, who died June 8, 2012. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a viewing from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. His pastor, The Reverend Courtland Howard will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery in York, with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Harris was born in Doylesburg on March 21, 1916, son of the late Franklin and Faye (Junkins) Harris and step son of the late Chris C. Neilson. He retired in 1981 after 35 years of service at York Corrugating Company, where he was a sheet metal worker and blue print reader. Mr. Harris was a lifelong member of Second Church of the Brethren in York. After retiring he was an avid wood carver and belonged to the York County Wood Carvers Association, winning several blue ribbons. He was also a member of Rock Oak Hunting Camp and Island Grove Campground Association. He was a Technical Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Leghorn, Italy. Mr. Harris leaves a daughter, Kaye E. Good of Jacobus; three grandchildren, Lisa Schmuck and her husband Tim of York, James Fillmore, II and his wife Lori of Michigan, and Teresa Swartz and her husband Michael of York; three great-grandchildren, James, Amanda and Jakob; step children, Michael Spence, Gary Spence, Diane Miller, Sharon Carter, Laurie Howard; 17 step grandchildren; and 16 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step son, Robert Spence and a step grandson, Aaron Miller. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA/Hospice, 912 South George Street, York, PA 17403.
