TROY- Wayne Harding "Rocky" Rockwell, 89, of Troy, PA passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Bradford County Manor. He was born on November 2, 1920 in Mt. Carmel, PA, son of the late John E. and Jennie (Hertzog) Harvey and later adopted by the late Hilton and Leone (Lyon) Rockwell of East Troy, PA in 1925. Rocky lived and worked on the family farm until he joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in the Philippines and earned several medals including the World War II Victory Medal. Following his discharge in 1946, he worked at Van Noy's Sawmill in East Troy, Cummings Lumber, and Mansfield University. Later, he was employed by Penn DOT and retired in 1982. After his retirement, "Rocky" as he was known by his many acquaintances, spent most of his time visiting people in the Troy area. In earlier years, he enjoyed roller-skating and bowling. He had a keen memory of everyone he ever met and could tell you who they were related to and where they lived. Wayne was a member of the East Troy United Methodist Church, was a 63-year member of the Troy American Legion Post #49, was a Golden Sheaf and lifetime member of the Troy Grange # 182, and was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge #166. Wayne is survived by his cousins Homer Lyon and his wife Marjorie Ross Lyon of Troy, PA and Shirley (Lyon) Brown and her husband, Dr. L. Duane Brown of Brooksville, Florida, his step brother-in-law Joseph Rula of Erie, PA, and several second cousins. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his foster sister Irene Lane Rula and step-brothers Dallas Rockwell and Raymond Harding, his special friend Marie Guiles, his uncle J. Raymond and Gladys Lyon and aunt Agnes Lyon Everts, and his cousins: Bernard and Hartley Everts, Edna Everts Van Alstine and Genevieve Everts Roloson. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 6:00-7:00 PM on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main St. Troy, PA. The memorial service to honor Wayne's life will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 19th at the funeral home with Pastor Jody Kenyon officiating. Following the service military rites will be given by the Troy Veteran's Honor Guard. Burial will be at the convenience of Wayne's family in Glenwood Cemetery.
