Warren S. Stine

DOVER TOWNSHIP- Warren S. "Whitey" Stine, 75, of Dover, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Jean M. (Brendle) Stine. The couple celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on October 12, 2009. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard at the start of the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York. Mr. Stine was born in Bair Station on April 4, 1935, a son of the late Warren Albert and Lottie Ellen (Gise) Stine. Mr. Stine retired in 1997 from Raytheon Engineers and Constructors as a Supplier Surveillance Representative since 1974. Prior to that he worked for Continental Wire and Cable in York and started his employment as a Serviceman in 1963, was a Production Foreman for a few years and was promoted to Quality Assurance Manager and remained in that capacity until leaving in 1974. He was a Korean War Veteran who served nine years in the US Marine Corps and was a Staff Sergeant when he was honorably discharged. He was responsible for the initiation of the first Cryptographic (Marine Corps) radio communications between the island of Okinawa and Japan. He received many Letters of Commendation and Meritorious Masts, was a member of the Marine Corps Electronic Equipment Board at Quantico and was a member of the National Security Agency for over five years. He attended Drill Instructors School at Parris Island, Army Signal Corps School, Navy Cryptographic Equipment Repair School, Marine Corps Heavy Equipment Repair School, Marine Corps Combat Engineer School and many others. Mr. Stine was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in York. He also had memberships in: AARP, Shiloh American Legion, Post 791, BD Social Club, Fraternal Order of Police, White Rose Lodge # 15 in York, Free and Accepted Masons, York Lodge # 266, PA Sheriffs' Association, Royal Fire Company, Thirteenth Ward Political Club, Donkey Club, Vigilant Fire Company, and Vigilant Social Club. He was a life member of: Marine Corps League, Ionosphere Club, Prince Athletic Association, Ambassadors Club, South End Club, Red Carpet Club, Royalty Club, Presidents Club, and Victory Athletic Association. Mr. Stine leaves a daughter, Susan C. Hirano; a son, Daniel W. Stine, both of Chicago; a grandson, Trevor S. Hirano; and a sister, JoAnn Dietz of York.
