Warren R. Miller

YORK – Warren R. Miller, 89, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the York Lutheran Home: The Village at Sprenkle Drive, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the loving husband of the late Mary R. (Jacobs) Miller to whom he was married for 53 years. A graveside ceremony will be held Saturday, July 9th, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill, York. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Miller was born in Millersburg on November 12, 1921, a son of the late Warren I. and Sarah (Heckert) Miller. He retired in 1983 from Central York High School where he was an industrial arts teacher for 28 years. Mr. Miller was a member of the Freemasons for over 60 years. He was also a long time member of the Springettsbury Lions Club. Mr. Miller worked as a carpenter with his father before proudly serving in the US Navy during World War II from 1942 – 1946. After the war, he attended Millersville University where he received his degree in education in 1949, later receiving his masters degree from Penn State. Mr. Miller leaves two daughters, Susan M. Tennant and husband Paul of Lancaster and M. Rachel Miller and husband Jeff Mallory of Chicago; and a granddaughter, Sarah Foreman. He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Campbell.
