Warren M. Johnson, 89, of York, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Pleasant Acres, York, PA. He was the husband of Marjorie (Young) Johnson for 64 years. Warren was born in Grove City, PA on May 14, 1925 and raised in Warren, PA. He was the son of the late Eugene and Alma Christiansen Johnson. He was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he was a Physics major, member of Carnegie’s Kiltie Band and the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Warren was a US Army veteran having served in World War II in the China-Berma India Theatre and also during the Korean War. He worked his entire career for Sylvania, first in St. Marys, PA and then at the York plant. Upon retirement, Warren was the General Manager at Osram Sylvania in York. Warren enjoyed camping, hiking, music and reading military history. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in York, the York Hiking Club, the Wrightsville American Legion and past member of Kiwanis and the Knights of Columbus. Warren is survived by his wife, Marjorie, his four children: Bob Johnson and wife Kathy of Ashville, NC; Jo Beach of York, PA; Tom Johnson and wife Linda of Lewisberry, PA and Mitchell Johnson of York, PA and three grandchildren: Paul and Susanne Beach and Vickie Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Ward Johnson. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York on Saturday, June 21st at 10 – 11 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am at the Church with Rev. Jim Menkhus, OFM Cap as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery near St. Marys, PA. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the SPCA.
