WELLSBORO- Wanita (Wescott) Gernert, 81, formerly of Columbia Crossroads, PA, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro, PA. She was the loving wife of the late John P. "Jack" Gernert, IV, who passed away on February 23, 1997. The couple married February 1, 1947 and had 50 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 7:00-9:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2009 and again from 9:00-10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Wanita's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3rd at the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Marple officiating. Burial will follow in Bradford County Memorial Park. Wanita was born on January 24, 1928 in Johnson City, NY, daughter of the late Howard Kenneth and Norma Betty (Worden) Wescott. She worked at Westinghouse, Eureka, Woven Label, R&S Electronics, helped with the family farm and was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed being an advocate for youth and teens for the 4-H horse club and square dance teams. She also enjoyed traveling, bingo, painting, woodworking, puzzles, playing cards, and getting her hair and nails done. Wanita is survived by her sons: Kenneth (Carolyn) Gernert of Troy, PA, and William (Carol) Gernert of Columbia Crossroads, PA, her daughters: Beverly (Terry) Yoder of Mansfield, PA, and Norma (Paul) Bellows of Canton, PA, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Wanita is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her granddaughter Theresa Ann (Teri-Ann) Yoder, her grandson Christopher Wood, an infant grandson, her brother Raymond Lawrence Wescott, and several sisters and brothers-in-law. Memorial contributions may be made in Wanita's memory to the Olde Covert Church, RR 1 Box 368, Troy, PA 16947, the Bakerburg Community Church, 197 Gray Valley Road, Mainesburg, PA 16932, or Broad Acres Nursing Home, 1883 Shumway Hill Rd Wellsboro, PA 16901.
