Wanda S. (Martin) Engstrand

YORK - Wanda Sue (Martin) Engstrand, 78, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late William A. Engstrand, who passed away on September 4, 2009. The couple had been married for 55 years. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Powder Mill Apartments Community Room, 42 Oak Ridge Dr., York with family friend, Chaplain Charlie Hoopes of Memorial Hospital officiating. A visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. prior to the service. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born on July 31, 1934 in York, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Pearl (Gilpin) Martin. Wanda was a 1952 graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia, MO. She worked as a Teacher’s Aide for over 20 years at Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 until her retirement. Mrs. Engstrand loved reading, birds and playing cards, especially bridge. She was a member of a number of bridge clubs. Wanda also enjoyed greeting people at Autumn House and looked forward to meeting new people every day. Most importantly, she loved being with children, especially her two sons. Mrs. Engstrand is survived by two sons, William P. Engstrand of York and Gregory S. Engstrand of York; one grandson, Zackary S. Curry of Hallsville, MO; one great grandson, Caleb; and two “adopted” daughters, Barb Hoopes and Cindy McMullen-Cortright and her husband, Michael. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sara Beaver and Hallie Phillips; and one brother, Oran Martin.
