Wanda M. (Schaeffer) Rishel

HANOVER- Wanda M. (Schaeffer) Rishel, 56, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at her residence with her loving and devoted husband by her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. The couple planned to celebrate their 33rd wedding anniversary on April 29, 2011. A celebration of life service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, Pa 17408 with her brother-in-law, Carl E. Rishel officiating. Viewings will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 5-6 p.m., both at the funeral home. Mrs. Rishel was born on June 24, 1954 in York, a daughter of Henrietta B. (Stotler) Schaeffer of York and the late Luther G. Schaeffer, Jr. She was a 1972 graduate of York Catholic High School. Along with her husband, Wanda owned and operated American Seed Co., Inc., where she served as Secretary/Treasurer and Carlton Snack Foods. She was also the managing partner of W.R. Real Estate Holdings. Mrs. Rishel was a former member of Baresville PTA and served as President for a number of years. She was one of the founders of the Hanover Soccer Club and had served as Secretary/Treasurer. Wanda enjoyed bowling and had been the League President of the North Hanover Bowling Center. She was also proud that she consistently had a higher average bowling score than her husband. Along with her family, she was an avid camper and especially enjoyed Myrtle Beach. Most importantly, she was a fantastic mother and wife. Along with her husband, Michael, Wanda is survived by a son, Chad M. Rishel of Alexandria, VA; a stepson, Benjamin E. Rishel and his wife, Sheri of Laurel, MS; one daughter, Heather L. Fricke and her husband, Steven of York; two step granddaughters, Hayden L. and Reese Rishel; three brothers, Lee G. Schaeffer of Newmanstown, Craig T. Schaeffer and his wife, Kathy of Mt. Wolf and Scott E. Schaeffer of Red Lion; four sisters, Debra A. Miller and her husband, Bill of Harrisburg, Kathy M. Clemens and her husband, Gary of Mt. Wolf, Diane M. Schaeffer of York and Lisa G. Ellis of Lancaster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
