Walter R. Boyer

Windsor – Walter Richard Boyer, 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at UPMC Memorial. He was the husband of the late Audrey R. (McClellan) Boyer, to whom he was married for 36 years. Born on July 11, 1943 in York, he was a son of Lorraine (Burg) and husband, Clyde Bentzel and the late, Walter L. Boyer. He served his country for 8 years as a proud Marine, fighting in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Dallastown American Legion Post 605 and was a past Post Commander, serving on the honor guard. He had also helped to start up Post 35. Walter worked for Duplex for 32 years and then worked as a truck driver before retiring in 2011. He enjoyed golfing, watching NASCAR and cheering on Virginia Tech football games. Walter is survived by sons, Michael Boyer and wife, Vena, Jeffrey Boyer and wife, Cathy and Mark Boyer and wife, Jennifer; daughters, Karen Sprow and husband, Thomas and Angela Openshaw and companion, Peter French; grandchildren, Megan, Jonathon, Jayde, Danielle, Brittany, Trevor, D.J., Harley, Summer, Autumn and Skye; great grandchildren, Aiden, Jaxxon, Cillian, Ronald, Jaiden, Journey, Gabriel, Mya, Leo and one on the way; girlfriend, Deanna Hershey; brothers, David Bentzel and Bob Boyer and sister, Linda Bentzel. He is preceded in death by brother Clyde ‘Butch’ Bentzel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Officiating will be Pastor Patti Bream. A viewing will be held from 6-9 PM on Monday, April 26, 2021 and 10-11 AM on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
