York—Walter M. Cox, Jr., 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of Gladys G. (Miller) Cox, to whom he was married for 14 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 1:00 PM, Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Rev. Nathan D. Conklin officiating. Viewings will be held from 6 - 8:00 PM Saturday and 12 – 1:00 PM Sunday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Jackson Township. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born April 17, 1925, Walter was the son of the late Mary (Miller) and Walter M. Cox, Sr. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. He worked as an inspector at American Chain Co. for over 30 years until his retirement in 1980. During retirement he worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Mr. Cox was a member of Spring Grove Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, East Berlin VFW, and AARP. He was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by two sons; Morris Cox and wife Gale of Spring Grove, Dean Cox of Icard, NC; a daughter, Norma and husband Bob Warntz of York; three step-sons, Robert Miller, Jr. of York, Michael Miller of York, Timothy Miller and wife Kim of York; a step-daughter Deb and husband Scott Wood of Hanover; six grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; a sister Mary and husband, Melvin Taylor, of Red Lion; one nephew; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Grace (Ruby) Cox; a son John Cox; and a grandson Bobby Warntz. Memorial contributions may be made to Spring Grove Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, 213 N Main St., Spring Grove, PA 17362.
