TROY- Walter L. "Baldy" or "Walt" Kent, 72, of Troy, PA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. Walt was born on June 5, 1937 in Troy, PA, son of the late Walter and Leah (Mason) Kent. Walt graduated from Troy High School, class of 1955. He served his country in the U.S. Army where he became an MP. After his discharge from the service, he met and married the love of his life, Jean (Wilbur) Kent, who preceded him in death on October 15, 1979. The couple married October 27, 1962 and had 16 happy years together. Walt was well known in the auto sales industry in the Elmira /Troy areas. He was previously employed at the former G.C. McCloud Volkswagen dealership on Grand Central Avenue in Horseheads, NY, until it's closure in 1983; he was also briefly employed at the former Lynman D. Gridley Mercury Dealership in Elmira, NY. Walt decided to return to his hometown of Troy, PA, and was employed in car sales at the former McClure Motor Company in Troy, PA from 1984 until his retirement in 2000. Walt was a self-taught guitar player, and he played in various bands in and around the Troy area. Walt also was an avid golfer, and he frequently played at Tommaso's Golf Course in Waverly, NY, as well as other golf courses in the surrounding areas. He also took many golfing vacations to Myrtle Beach, SC, Pinehurst, GA, and Fort Benning, GA, with many of his friends. Walt is survived by his daughters Brenda (Stuart) Woughter of Coryland, PA, Darla (Mickey) Ledwick of Phenix City, AL, his sons Daryl (Stacy) Kent of Troy, PA and Stephen Kent of Austinville, PA, his grandsons: Matthew (Nicolette) Woughter of Waverly, NY, Timothy Woughter of Coryland, PA, Scott and Steve Kent of Troy, PA, Garrett and Matthew Ledwick of Phenix City, AL, granddaughters: Samantha Kent of Troy, PA, Marlena and Maeghan Ledwick of Phenix City, AL, great grandson Hunter and great granddaughter Sydney Woughter of Waverly, NY, his step brothers: Merle (Sandy) Woodward of Zephyr Hills, FL, James Woodward of Sayre, PA, and many nieces and nephews; also close friend Sam Hurlbert of Troy, PA, childhood friend Les Walkins of Troy, PA, special friend and casino buddy George Baron of Troy, PA, and all the "Coffee Club" gang from Moose's Munchies. Walt was predeceased by his parents, his wife Jean, his half brothers John Williams and Murray Kent, and his step sister Wilma (Woodward) Crosby. Family and friends are welcome to call from 9:00-11:00 AM on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The celebration of Walt's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Garry Zuber of the First Baptist Church of Troy officiating. Burial will follow the service in Bradford County Memorial Park with military honors given by the Troy Veterans Honor Guard. Walt was a well-known resident of Troy, PA, and will be greatly missed.
