NEW OXFORD- Walter Lewis Greer, 94, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Cross Keys Village The Brethren Home, where he had been a resident for 20 years. He was the husband of Dorothy E. (Seagreaves) Greer and the late Lois Mae (Creep) Greer. The couple celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on August 16th. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at The Brethren Home in the Nicarry Meeting House, 2990 Carlisle Rd. in New Oxford, with a visitation from 10:30-11 a.m. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. at Mount Rose Cemetery in York, with a cortege forming at the main gate at 1:45 p.m. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Walter was born and raised in York on September 3, 1923, the son of the late Lewis and Lydia (Latchow) Greer. He retired from the York Water Company after 30 years of employment. Walter was a member and a deacon of Faith Community Church of the Brethren Home, New Oxford, and a member of their choir. He liked camping and woodworking. He was a decorated US Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific Theatre. He was a longtime board member of the East Berlin VFW Post #8896. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Walter is survived by his son, John L. Greer and his wife Susan of York; a grandson, Michael Greer of Troy, PA; a step daughter, Cheryl Boyd and her husband Gary of Lake Meade; a step son, Frank Cramer and his wife Jill of York; four step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Alan Greer and six brothers and sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Spirit Trust Lutheran Hospice, 1920 Good Hope Rd., Enola, PA 17025.
