Dallastown - Walter Eugene Silks, 70, went to be with Jesus on March 11, 2011 at York Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Betty (Kauffman) Silks to whom he was married 49 years on December 9, 2010. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 PM Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Ct., York with Pastor Bob Riedy officiating. A viewing will be held from 1-2 PM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Walter was born May 30, 1940 in Millersburg to the late George and Florence (Shepley) Silks. He was the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters. Walter worked with his friends and family at Greydon, Inc. as a Machinist. He was a former employee of BAE systems where he worked as a Tool and Die Maker until his retirement in 2003. He also served his trade at Caterpillar Tractor Company. Walter loved God, his family, friends and his country. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, especially in British Columbia. He was a member of Church of the Open Door. He also served our country in the Army as a paratrooper medic. Walter, you will be missed! "Fish on!" Along with his wife Betty, Walter is survived by a daughter, Alice Zepp and husband Daniel of East Berlin; a son, Ralph Silks and wife Brenda of Red Lion; 5 grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Kruger of Oregon and Lydia Peiffer of Millersburg.
