RED LION- Walter D. Peters, 87, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 peacefully at his residence. He was the husband of Ruth C. (Riale) Peters to whom he was married for 64 years. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 2650 Freysville Rd., Red Lion with his pastor, the Reverend Paul N. Frank officiating. A viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Freysville Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born on November 1, 1930 in Red Lion, he was the son of the late William K. and Thelma E. (Douglas) Peters. Walter was a 1949 graduate of Red Lion High School. He worked as a paper cutter for Maple Press until his retirement. Mr. Peters served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years during the Korean War. Walter was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Red Lion American Legion Post #543, Maple Press Retirees and a life member of the Red Lion Fire Co. He enjoyed working on the farm, especially all of the people he worked with and loved his grand cats. Along with his wife, Ruth, Walter is survived by two sons, Dennis Peters and companion, Trudy Frey of Red Lion and Donald Peters and wife, Kelly of Red Lion; one daughter, Joyce Breneman and husband, Denny of Red Lion; two step grandchildren, Sean Asten of York and Steven Asten of Camp Hill; one sister, Rae Jean Poff and husband, Gene of York; and two nephews, Steven Smith and wife, Berty of Hummelstown and Jan Poff and wife, Catherine of Cary, N.C. He was preceded in death by one sister, Joan G. Smith; one niece, Dr. Linda Smith; and one nephew, Joel Poff. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 2, Red Lion, PA 17356.
