YORK- Walter Calvin Moore, 100, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 4:54 p.m. at Manor Care North. He was the husband of Dolores I. (Swisher) Moore. Mr. Moore was born on October21, 1910 in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he studied engineering and music. After graduation he moved to Fort Worth, TX where he taught music for a public school and worked as a musical arranger for a local radio station. During WWII he was a sanitation engineer on an Army base in Tallahassee, FL. He later moved to Oak Ridge, TN, where he took place in the Manhattan Project. He performed with the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra and the Knoxville Tennessee Symphony Orchestra. From there he moved to San Diego, CA and was employed by General Atomic. He retired in 1970, ending his career as Vice President of York Borg Warner. Mr. Moore was a member of the York Rotary Club, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Nuclear Society and a supporter of the York Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Moore will be laid to rest at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, Garden of the Well, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd., York PA 17402, Monday October 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Bayse “Bud” H. Reedy officiating. A funeral cortege will meet at the entrance of the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. In addition to his wife, Calvin is survived by a daughter, Susan Jordan of Stroudsburg; a son, Lawrence Calvin Moore of Los Angeles; five stepchildren, Stephen, Rhonda and Darryl Swisher, all of York, Curtis Swisher of Abbottstown and Sheree Swisher of S.C. and all their families. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma McKee Moore and a daughter, Annalee Mikell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 3417 Concord Rd., York, PA 17402 or Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene, 400 Stillmeadow Ln., York, PA 17404.
