LCL. W. ROBERT MOSER Col. Moser was called home to be with his beloved Elizabeth in Heaven on Saturday, December 31, 2011. Most recently of Providence Place, Col. Moser resided at 418 Fleet Street, Pottsville from 1946 until 2006. His wife Elizabeth (Keiser) predeceased him in May 2000. Bob and Elizabeth were married February 16, 1942. He was the son of Charles and Rebecca Foy Moser. Bob was devoted to his Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville. Born September 12, 1911, he was baptized at Trinity Lutheran in 1911 and confirmed in 1925. He served Trinity Lutheran in many capacities over his lifetime including Sunday School Teacher from 1926 until 1948, Church Council and continued as usher and greeter until a few years before his death. Bob was drafted into World War II in March 1942. Following basic training at Camp Chaffee and Fort Smith, Arkansas, he was selected for Officers Candidate School. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and assigned to the 109th Engineers Battalion C of the 34th Infantry Division and sent to North Africa. Following the North Africa campaign, he went on to Italy. While serving in Italy, he earned five battle stars and was promoted to First Lieutenant and then to Captain. Upon returning home, he served with the US Army Reserves and was subsequently promoted to Major and to Lt.Col. He retired from the Reserve Officers Corps in October 1964. Following his active military service, Bob was employed by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board for forty years culminating as Manager of the Pottsville State Store from 1951 until his retirement in 1974. Bob was an active member of his community. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 129 and a Life Member of American Legion Robert Woodbury Post. He was a Life Member of the Good Will Fire Company No. 4 of Pottsville and served as Secretary, Vice-President and President over a period of more than seventy-five years. He was also a member of the Six County Fireman’s Association and served as Treasurer, Secretary and Trustee of the Pottsville Firemen’s Relief Association. Bob served for twenty-one years as President of the Pennsylvania State Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE). Bob was presented with the first Volunteer of the Year Award by the Schuylkill United Way. Bob was a member of the Redevelopment Authority of Pottsville until the time of his death. He was appointed to the Authority by four consecutive Mayors of the City of Pottsville. Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home of Pottsville. Viewing will be Wednesday, January 4 from 11am to noon. Services will be at noon followed by entombment alongside his dearly beloved wife at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum in Laureldale, PA. Services for Col. Moser will be conducted by Rev. Harold L. Hand Jr. Senior Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to The Good Will Fire Co. # 4 , Pottsville, PA.
